Dignity and Compassion for Immigrants

“For I was hungry, and you fed me” – Matthew 25:35

As part of our Lenten alms, the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Newark, in partnership with First Friends of NJ & NY, is collecting $20 gift cards from ShopRite, Walmart, and Stop & Shop. These gift cards will be given to spouses and children whose primary breadwinner is being detained at the Newark Detention Center. Uber cards are also accepted to help with transportation during family visits. We know $20 doesn’t buy much, but it does help.

Please attach the receipt to the gift card and hand in the gift card to the parish office or drop them into the collection basket at Mass. Thank you for your generosity.

Date: April 1 to April 30, 2026

We are also conducting a Bible Drive to collect Spanish, Portuguese and French/Creole Bibles for individuals currently in detention. For many detainees, access to Scripture in their native language is a vital source of comfort, hope and spiritual strength during this difficult time. If you would like to get involved with more volunteer opportunities with the Migrant Ministries through the Archdiocese of Newark, please contact Fr. Alex Gaitan and Gift Card Drive Assistant Jasmine Urzo at 973-497-4338 / Email: migrantministrynewark@gmail.com
