The Welcoming Words of Fr. John Galeano to the parish community of St. Joseph

My Dear Community of Saint Joseph,

In simple words, I want to say hello in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. About a month ago, I had the chance to celebrate the Eucharist with you and I was so full of joy and I felt so welcomed by all of you and your parish. I couldn’t wait for the day to be with you in your home, which is now mine too and for that I am thankful.

Today’s Gospel comes from St. Matthew and invites us with a deep feeling of love to “Take up your Cross and follow Me…” which is something that can be misinterpreted. When we hear the word cross, sometimes it is negative and painful. However, it is the opposite of the message I want to give you this day. For me and I hope for all of you, the cross means victory and to embrace one another as a sign of unity. That is the cross I believe our Lord Jesus Christ is inviting us at St. Joseph’s Church to approach.

I want to recite some of the lines that many of the Popes have said. Pope John Paul II said, “I am coming from far away to work in the vineyard of the Lord.” Pope Benedict XVI (16th) remarkably said, “I am just a worker of the Lord.” Our Holy Father Francisco asked that all of us pray for him. Not as imitating them but with great admiration of them and their humble words, I would like to tell you that I am coming
from far away to work in the vineyard of the Lord and I want you to pray that I could do so.

I thank God for each one of you. I hope I will grow and learn from everyone and I will do everything possible to guide you well with the help of the Holy Spirit and the Lady of Mount Carmel will cover us with her robe. Last but not least, I would like to implore our patron St. Joseph to have one of his greatest gifts, the virtue of prudence, that will allow me to serve, to love, and to be.

God bless all of you,

Fr. John Galeano

Padre John Galeano
